Zigler, first-of-its-kind student movement changing the lives of community and pet animals

Zigler, a first-of-its-kind student movement changing the lives of community and pet animals

Over 70% of the world’s homeless dogs and cats live on the streets of India, with urban areas seeing a significant rise in pet abandonment. These animals face unimaginable hardships, from lack of food and shelter to increased danger on the roads but a groundbreaking initiative is giving hope to community animals across Delhi, led by the youth of today who are passionate about making a change.

Zigly Foundation has launched Zigler - Youth for Paws, the first-ever student-driven movement dedicated to the welfare of community animals and responsible pet parenthood. This revolutionary program educates, trains, and empowers students to actively engage in animal protection, work on ground for the welfare of community animals, and guide pet parents towards responsible pet care, nurturing a compassionate generation of future leaders dedicated to advancing animal welfare.

The Zigler - Youth for Paws program has already educated over 6,000 students across 15 colleges in Delhi-NCR through awareness sessions, webinars, and online programs. As a result, more than 300 passionate Ziglers are now actively working on the ground, impacting the lives of over 500 community dogs. These dedicated volunteers are carrying out daily feeding drives twice a day for over 100 community dogs in their areas. In addition, the Ziglers are tirelessly working on rescue cases, fostering animals in need, and facilitating adoptions.

As part of the initiative, Zigly Foundation distributed over 100 jackets to shelter dogs at the Karma Foundation and the Posh Foundation, ensuring they stay warm and safe. In North Campus, the Ziglers successfully conducted a deworming drive, treating over 40 community dogs. Today, they conducted a reflective collar drive at South Campus, where they fit 70 community dogs with reflective collars to enhance their visibility at night and reduce the risk of road accidents.

Zigly Foundation’s commitment to both pet and community animal welfare goes beyond education. The Ziglers are the driving force behind spreading awareness about responsible pet parenting and promoting peaceful coexistence with street animals. Through various campaigns, such as feeding drives, vaccination, and health checkups, the foundation continues to make a significant and lasting difference in the lives of countless animals across the Delhi-NCR region.

“We firmly believe that if today’s students are educated, aware, and empathetic towards community animals, we can change the future for these voiceless beings. Through the Zigler program, we’re empowering the youth to not only be the change-makers but also to inspire others to join the cause,” said Mrs. Yamini Jaipuria, Managing Trustee, Zigly Foundation.

The Zigler - Youth for Paws movement is transforming the way the youth engage with animal welfare, one community dog, one pet parent, and one student at a time. With the support of these dedicated young volunteers, Zigly Foundation continues to work toward a future where every community animal is given the love, respect, and care they deserve.
